The Story

Here we have a classic 1940 Willys Americar in Tangerine Orange paint. This is a car would be Sensational in any collection and one that will be sure to brighten your Sunday.

The Willys name has a very deep history. In 1908, John Willys bought the Overland Automotive Division of Standard Wheel Company and in 1912 renamed it Willys–Overland Motor Company. Through several mergers and acquisitions over the next 70 years, the Willys heritage is now part of the Chrysler Corporation.

The Willys Americar was a line of automobiles produced by Willys-Overland Motors from 1937 to 1942, either as a sedan, coupe, station wagon or pickup truck. The coupe version is a very popular hot rod choice. The 1937–1942 coupés and sedans were popular with hot rodders and gasser teams.

Gassers were very popular race cars back in the later 1950's throughout the latter part of the 1960's. They're called Gassers because even the supercharged gasser classes had to run on gasoline. No exotic fuels.

This 1940 Willys Americar has an all-steel body making it a rarity among the fiberglass-body versions that proliferate the market today. It’s hard to find any well-done ’40 Willys coupe that doesn’t turn heads and inspire stares. But this car, with its excellent stance, alluring Tangerine paint and timeless details blows others out of the water.
