1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL
The Story
Let's time-travel back to a much simpler time when the emphasis was on space and rockets, reflected in many consumer goods, from furniture to some very gorgeous automobiles.
The Ford Galaxie was Ford’s answer to the Chevy Impala, launching for model year 1959, the year after the first Impala. The 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL was the first of the big performance Fords, with bucket seats, console and elegant interior trim. The 500XL was a sub-series in the Galaxie 500 lineup.
This beautiful 1964 Galaxie 500XL, has taillights that glow like afterburners in the dark, with side moldings resembling a missile in flight, complete with vapor trail. One might argue that even the name "Galaxie" fits in nicely with the space-age theme.
This car represents one of only 1200 produced as an R-Code with a solid-lifter, 427 CI V-8 engine and 4-speed manual transmission. This 500XL is presented in the breathtaking “Guardsman Blue” exterior.
The '64 Galaxie has an elegant and robust design that turned heads when it was new and has withstood the test of time.
