The Story

The creation of the Pontiac GTO inspired Ford and Chrysler to enter the high-performance market, an era that extended into the early 1970s until Federal emissions standards choked-off performance. GTO went into production in 1964 on the Le Mans platform and in 1966 became a separate Pontiac Model. The "A" body intermediate line was restyled that year, gaining more curvaceous styling with kicked-up rear fender lines for a coke bottle look.

The attached sign image, by Legacy Graphic Design , tells the story of one 1966 Pontiac GTO Convertible. This story talks about the genesis of the GTO and engineers such as John DeLorean. The GTO is arguably recognized as THE car that started the Muscle Car Era. Enjoy.
