The Story

In 1962, Shelby American and Ford Motor Company collaborated on their first car, the Shelby Cobra. The Cobra resulted in racing championships, victories over Ferrari at Le Mans and amazing Shelby Cars based on the Ford Mustang.

Carroll Shelby always wanted to use the name “King of the Road” for one of his cars. In 1968, Shelby created the first GT500KR where KR stood for “King of the Road”. A limited number of GT500KRs were made in 1968 and are some of the most sought-after collector Mustangs in existence. The second coming of the GT500KR was in 2008.

To celebrate Shelby’s 60th anniversary, Shelby built a very limited number of third-generation GT500KR Mustangs for the 2020-2022 model years. This 2021 GT500KR is only one of 60 in existence. Finished in Rapid Red paint this GT500KR, features a larger supercharger pushing over 900 horsepower, a vented dry carbon fiber hood, improved suspension and a reworked interior. This car truly represents Shelby at its best and is worthy of the iconic “King of the Road” crown.
